Constant Motion

Since she was born, Reagan has been in constant motion. Here is an example:

So on February 6th we were back in Ohio and the under/over on number of weeks until Reagan “walks” was determined to be 9.  “Walks” was defined as taking a few un-supported steps.  Well, the official ruling is that on March 27, she reached this mile-stone, well under the 9- week estimate (See Uncle Ted if you bet “under”).  Catching this on video has proven difficult as it happens infrequently, and when we try to force it, she usually needs to turn and walk which is a harder skill.  We will get a video soon, even if it is the failed turn and walk.

Catching Up

We’ve had a busy past couple weeks that didn’t leave us much time or energy for posting, but here’s a quick rundown.

Two weeks ago, my mom, Mom-mom, sister Michelle, and her boyfriend Jared all came and stayed with us for the weekend. We saw the Terra Cotta Warriors at the National Geographic Museum, everyone but Reagan and me saw the First Lady dresses and Julia Child kitchen at the American History Museum, we went to the Basilica of the National Shrine for mass and heard a great sermon by the President of Catholic University, and had a fabulous brunch before sending everyone home.

We had a quick visit from Tim, Kathy, Maggie, and Bailie that night, who took the long way from Philly back to Huron and had an awesome dinner of what was left of the home-made pasta and meatballs and sausage that my Mom-mom made.

Later that week, Tim took off for a long weekend of snowboarding in Park City, UT, so Reagan and I spent the weekend shopping. And thanks to our fabulous neighbors and babysitting coop, I was able to drop Reagan off on Sunday morning to make it to my first soccer game of the season.

Oh, the Trailblazer

Oh, to Tim’s first brand new car – from Dayton to Cincinnati to DC – a long, adventurous drive through Charleston, SC to Daytona to Key West and back to Dayton – commuting to Rockville and back – hours and hours of NPR – drives to Huron and back – drives to New Jersey and back – early am drives to BWI for flights to Kentucky – camping, biking, triathloning, hiking – nights on the Mall for softball – carrying a very unhappy baby home for the first time – after 133k+ miles, too many things were wrong, so we traded it in…

for a 2010 Outback. Reagan got to “drive” it first, since we test drove a different one and the one we actually bought was in the showroom.

Happy Birthday Jack!

Last weekend was Reagan’s friend Jack’s first birthday and he had an awesome party at our neighborhood bar – yes, at the bar. It’s actually the same space that Tim’s 30th birthday was last year, but they have since closed, rebranded, and reopened as Toyland.

The party was a big hit – lots of friends, food, and cake. I didn’t get a picture of Reagan and Jack at the party, but here’s a recent one of them at the elephant parade when  the circus came to town.

Clothes!

Despite the recent pictures, Reagan actually does own quite a few outfits and they’re really cute. And, she got some new barrettes last week, which are definitely helping control the bangs.

9 Months

We went to the doctor last week for Reagan’s 9 month well-baby visit. As usual, she was very well behaved and patient waiting for the resident and doctor to come in. Unusually, we had a pretty quick visit and if we didn’t have to wait for the nurse to come back with a vaccine, we would have been out in 45 minutes. That is a record for us. I’ll have to continue with this first appointment after lunch thing.

Reagan happily crawled around on the (kind of dirty) floor and chewed on the chair and generally enjoyed herself, except for a few tears after the shot.

Yes, and she did start sucking on her toe. She weighed in at 20lb, the 70th percentile and was measured at 29in tall, which is the 90th percentile.

Ever the TV watcher

I admit, I watch more TV than I should, even when Reagan’s around, but I like the background noise. It just happens that there’s not much space upstairs, so the TV is right there. Sometimes Reagan doesn’t care at all that the TV is on and sometimes, she can’t keep her eyes off it.

And yes, she does have and wear clothes, we just usually hang upstairs at the beginning or end of the day. Since Reagan doesn’t really like the whole getting dressed process, we give her a break between the diaper and clothes.

Meg and Emily came over for dinner Saturday and, though it took Reagan a little while to warm up to them (mostly because she was hungry), she was thrilled to play from across the table once we were finished eating.
