A few steps

I was talking to another neighborhood mom the other day – though I can’t remember who – said a friend was using a laundry basket as a walker. We tried the laundry basket, but Reagan just walked on her knees. But, this empty storage bin is just the right height. Reagan veers a little to the left and runs into either the wall or the railing or the tv console, but seems to think it’s funny. And, sometimes, crawling is much more effective.

Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital Camera (Dark Grey)

And, this is the first video with our new camera! I decided on the Canon Powershot 1200IS in Dark Gray, which looks kind of blue in some lights. I’m not in love with it yet, though it’s very similar to the last one, but I do like that it has a battery level display, which is a new feature. I don’t understand, though, either the image stabilization function or the “Auto” setting. The manual doesn’t explain either of these things, so I’ll have to do a bit more research here.

She’s trouble already

Mom, this box is so pretty. What is it?

I can pick one up all by myself.

Oh, you’re right. I better not.

Getting Out

With the exception of a few fabulous play dates with some neighborhood kids, we really didn’t get out much last week. Tim went to work a few days, but Georgetown was closed Monday through Thursday, so I didn’t go to work at all.

By the weekend, we were feeling like the roads were more clear, so we took Reagan to the pool for the first time. I think she enjoyed it, but the pool was a bit cooler than I expected. We called it quits once she was shivering for a while and had blue lips!

Sunday, before a fabulous dinner of Hungarian Beef Stew with some friends, we spent some time at the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum. If I haven’t mentioned it before, this is my favorite museum in DC. It’s a beautiful building – the original Patent Office – and always has cool special exhibits. The best part, though, is the atrium. When the building was renovated a few years ago, they covered the atrium with a wavy glass ceiling. The water features, which were not turned on when we were there Sunday, are flat features that run across the ground. The darker stone where Reagan is crawling usually has water just running over it. Though it may be the only museum she has been to, I think it’s Reagan’s favorite, too!

So sad…

I seriously don’t know what happened. Reagan and I were walking to the front door to take pictures of Tim shoveling and the camera just slipped out of my hand right to the floor. Well, it dropped at the worst possible angle and…IMGP2181

the lens/zoom housing cracked and is crooked and won’t close. If you turn it on, it just beeps at you and shuts off.

I did a bit of searching last night for a replacement and there is now a newer model. For some crazy reason, this model, which I really do love, is twice as much as its “replacement”. I guess I’ll have to search my favorite electronics websites to see who has the best deal. Bummer.

Home Again, Home Again

We made it home after a long drive Sunday. It was pretty easy until we got into Montgomery County and then the highways were a mess. There was easily 2 inches of slush on most of the lanes and lots of cars run off the road. We decided to get off the beltway and take some of the main arterials through the city. It wasn’t a bad decision, but there was still plenty of snow around, so it was slow going.

Thankfully, we have some awesome neighbors who shoveled our sidewalk and walkway for us! This picture is from this morning, but it looks just like we found it last night.

Tim did have to dig out a space for the car, so we would be off the main road for today. And, we didn’t know at that point that Georgetown would be closed and I wouldn’t have to go to work. I still don’t know about tomorrow, I guess they’ll announce something later this afternoon.

Huron Beach Pictures

We’ve spent the last week in Huron, visiting with the fam and getting a few walks down to the lake. It’s been pretty much frozen all week, with some cool ice formations and mounds to walk on.

I also took a Photoshop class at school the other day and learned how to put a panorama together from multiple pictures, so while we were down at the beach, I took some with the intention of putting this together.
