Park City Trip

For the last three seasons, I have gone on a ski/snowboarding trip with a couple guys from work. This year five of us, Robb and Sean (coworkers), Lindsey (Robb's brother), Techno (my college roommate) and I met up in Park City, Utah. Mike D, a guy from Dayton who relocated to Salt Lake after school, joined us for a few days as well. I twisted my ankle the first morning, but fought through to enjoy most of the weekend. I went to three resorts while we were there; Park City, Brighton, and Deer Valley. It was a great time. Here is a group shot from the top of Deer Valley. From left to right: Robb (coworker); Tim (notice the new jacket); Sean (coworker); Lindsey (Robb's brother). Techno headed home early thus was not at Deer Valley.

More 2008 Travels - Huron, Part 1

We took 2 trips to Huron last summer, one in June for a family weekend and the second in July with our fabulous friends and neighbors, Briant and Wendy.

The first weekend, it was a bit cool for the beach (I think), so we played golf, ate good meals, and played a great game of kickball!

Cornhole,

hula hooping lessons, the ever-popular weeding, spending a lazy evening in the yard, and

a mean game of kickball!

Happy Valentine's Day!

So, I'll admit that I am not a fan of Valentine's Day. But, I got to spend the day with my mom and we had a fabulous time. She had spent a few days in Charlotte with my sister, Michelle and they made "a dozen roses" for me. And the "roses" are each a different candy... Kit Kat, York Peppermint Patty, candy hearts, Reese's peanut butter heart, Peep's hearts, and more! How delicious is that? Now, I just have to wait for Tim to get home so I don't eat it all myself.

More 2008 Travels - NYC

So, Tim makes an effort to visit baseball stadiums while traveling in other cities. I suggested we take a trip to New York City to see a game at Yankee Stadium before it was knocked down to make room for the new stadium. We picked a weekend, made our plans, and went up for a relaxing, though hot, weekend. We had upper deck seats for the Friday night game and knew we wanted to go to a show on Saturday. Other than that, we had no plans.

Saturday, we took the subway to the World Trade Center and Ground Zero, which is really just a construction site now, but we wandered in to St. Paul's Chapel. Their post-September 11th volunteer efforts were amazing and they currently have exhibits with pictures from the months following the attacks and cards and objects of support they have received from people all over the world.

We strolled back towards our hotel, stopping at Katz's Deli for lunch, mmm... pastrami sandwiches and matzo ball soup! Then, off to Times Square to get in line for show tickets at TKTS. We got tickets to Avenue Q on advice from some friends who had seen it. Despite the puppets, this is not a show for kids. They sang and talked about any and nearly every topic that might be slightly inappropriate and it was hilarious!. If you have not seen this, I highly recommend it. And if you are in DC, they are going to be at the Warner Theater next week.

Sunday, we took a quick trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw two great special exhibits. The first was a display of movie super hero costumes and the second was a roof-top show of sculptures that look like huge balloon animals. Took a quick walk through Central Park, and fought our way through the traffic and street closures of the Puerto Rican Day parade so we could grab our bags and head back to the bus for the ride home.

First Trip in 2009...Last as D.I.N.K.?

So while the rest of the world was focused on Washington last week, we got out of town. On Saturday before the inauguration, we flew to Cancun, rented a car, and after paying our extortion fee to the friendly police officer that pulled me over for no reason at all, we arrived at our second-floor room on the beach - about a mile south of the Tulum Mayan ruins.

We snorkeled the Dos Ojos Cenote

and Yal-Kul...

saw the Mayan Ruins in Tulum,

and relaxed on the beach.

It was a good trip, Saturday through Tuesday.

2008 Travels

As we start to plan the upcoming months, Tim and I are anticipating that we will not be able to take as many trips as we have in the past. Not that we won't travel at all, but trips will be different. In 2008, took a few great trips... San Francisco in February, NYC in June, Huron in June with Briant and Wendy, and our big trip was to Slovenia and Croatia in September.

We had a fabulous long weekend in San Francisco, visiting Tim's sisters and niece and doing some good tourist things.

We hiked around Muir Woods one afternoon...

Saw the city from the top of the Coit Tower...

Rode tandems across the Golden Gate Bridge...

And, of course, spent quality time with family.

It was great to be able to spend some time out there before Sarah, Sophie, and Maggie made their move back east.
