More 2008 Travels - NYC

So, Tim makes an effort to visit baseball stadiums while traveling in other cities. I suggested we take a trip to New York City to see a game at Yankee Stadium before it was knocked down to make room for the new stadium. We picked a weekend, made our plans, and went up for a relaxing, though hot, weekend. We had upper deck seats for the Friday night game and knew we wanted to go to a show on Saturday. Other than that, we had no plans.

Saturday, we took the subway to the World Trade Center and Ground Zero, which is really just a construction site now, but we wandered in to St. Paul's Chapel. Their post-September 11th volunteer efforts were amazing and they currently have exhibits with pictures from the months following the attacks and cards and objects of support they have received from people all over the world.

We strolled back towards our hotel, stopping at Katz's Deli for lunch, mmm... pastrami sandwiches and matzo ball soup! Then, off to Times Square to get in line for show tickets at TKTS. We got tickets to Avenue Q on advice from some friends who had seen it. Despite the puppets, this is not a show for kids. They sang and talked about any and nearly every topic that might be slightly inappropriate and it was hilarious!. If you have not seen this, I highly recommend it. And if you are in DC, they are going to be at the Warner Theater next week.

Sunday, we took a quick trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw two great special exhibits. The first was a display of movie super hero costumes and the second was a roof-top show of sculptures that look like huge balloon animals. Took a quick walk through Central Park, and fought our way through the traffic and street closures of the Puerto Rican Day parade so we could grab our bags and head back to the bus for the ride home.

Introducing

It has become customary that the impending birth of a child also means the creation of a blog. We're no different, only instead of a baby blog, we are doing a family blog. Not only because we believe (hope?) our lives as individuals and as a couple will continue to be important after the baby is born, but also because we don't want lots of blogs if more kids show up in the future. Thus begins the chronicling of our "Armstrong Adventures." Our life together has been just that, and we suspect the adventures are just beginning. It is through this blog that we invite you to join our adventures.
